Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride, a natural mineral, is renowned for its ability to prevent tooth decay. Regular fluoridation of food and water supplies helps purify and eliminate harmful germs and bacteria. Recognized for over fifty years, the benefits of fluoride in preventing tooth decay are supported by numerous healthcare professionals and organizations.

There are two types of fluoride: 

Topical fluoride is employed after teeth have erupted to seep into the outer enamel layer. This application strengthens teeth post-eruption, fortifying them and enhancing resilience. Dental products like gels, toothpaste, and mouthwash contain topical fluoride. Dentists recommend professional fluoride application for children during their biannual dental check-ups to bolster their dental health.

Systemic fluoridenot only strengthens erupted teeth but also aids tooth formation beneath the gum line. It's present in most foods and clean water supplies. Healthcare providers may prescribe fluoride supplements in liquid or gel form. Tablets are suitable for children, while infants are recommended droplets. Monitoring fluoride intake is crucial to prevent fluorosis, characterized by white stains on teeth.

Occasionally, systemic fluoride might not be enough, prompting your dentist to recommend home or specialized fluoride treatments for:

• History of recent dental decay.
