Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening is a straightforward and non-invasive dental procedure utilized to brighten the natural enamel color of teeth. It's an ideal solution for individuals seeking to improve the aesthetic appeal of their smiles.

Dentists have devised various methods to address the high demand for teeth whitening. One of the simplest and widely favored approaches is using a home teeth whitening system. However, it's crucial to note that teeth whitening exclusively affects the natural enamel, necessitating evaluation for any old fillings or crowns. Restoration procedures should follow the whitening process to ensure alignment with the newly brightened teeth.

Importantly, teeth whitening isn't a permanent solution. However, reducing the intake of substances like cigarettes, coffee, tea, and wine can prolong the brightened effect for several years before necessitating another touch-up.

Reasons for teeth whitening:

  • Fluorosis is a chronic condition that arises due to an overabundance of fluoride intake, leading to the development of white or brown specks on the teeth and, in severe cases, potential calcification of the ligaments.
  • Normal wear of outer teeth layer.
  • Stained teeth due to medications, coffee, tea, soda, wine, tobacco, poor dental hygiene and disease.
  • Yellow or brown stained teeth.

What does teeth whitening involve?

The teeth whitening procedure usually involves two visits. Initially, impressions (molds) of your teeth are taken to create personalized, transparent plastic trays. These trays are customized to fit your teeth precisely.

On your subsequent visit, you'll test the trays, ensuring they fit comfortably. Any needed adjustments will be made at this time. Following that, you'll be instructed to wear the trays filled with a specialized whitening solution either twice a day for 30 minutes or overnight for a couple of weeks. The duration will depend on the severity of staining and your desired level of whitening.

It's common to experience teeth sensitivity while undergoing the teeth whitening process, but this sensitivity typically subsides shortly after completing the procedure.

Tip: In order to maintain a white, flawless and healthy smile, we encourage you to visit your dentist regularly. You will also receive care instructions for your teeth and trays.
